Optimize for Mobile Devices Now!
Social media is growing in popularity with every purchase of a laptop, a tablet, a smartphone and as I have said before… ignore it at your own peril! It is human nature… once you have the tool you want to use it! Prospective customers who may be looking for the products you might have; a particular kind of business near where they live or work; or special offers from businesses they want to try, are looking online. Fingers are walking on keyboards, now… not through the Yellow Pages. Keep in mind these few tips as you pay attention to your online presence. Once you get set up, spend 20 minutes each day on fresh content and you will reap great rewards from your efforts with genuine customer interest, feedback and referrals.
Geographic searches. Every retailer needs to claim their address and store information on local sites like Facebook, Google, Yelp and Foursquare. First, be sure the information is accurate! Then, enrich the information about your business with photos in order to be a bit more interesting than your competition. A little effort to stand out will help folks find you first!
Website modifications. While we all know that websites need to look their best, contain current information and have links to your social media platforms… now we have to be sure that our websites are optimized for mobile devices. If your site does not look good on a smartphone… it is not going to do the trick. Talk to your developer to be sure the content is readable and the images appear quickly.
Email communications: Sending emails to customers is a great way to notify them of the special things going on in your store. Did you know that by the end of this year, 50% of all emails will be opened and read on cell phones? Again, if your email is not optimized to be easily read on a mobile device, it is not going to be effective. Check with your provider (Constant Contact or Mail Chimp perhaps) or the person in-house who is responsible for sending out emails and be sure you are mobile-ready!
